# Carlsberg Asia takes the high-end route, focusing on experience and cost-effectiveness, launching immersive experience activities in Hong Kong to attract customers

The Chinese beer market has slightly rebounded this year. Arindam Varanasi, Vice President of Commercial for Carlsberg Asia, stated that the company is actively promoting high-end development. However, due to the uncertain economic outlook, consumers are beginning to prioritize "cost-effectiveness." The group's future pricing strategy will need to be assessed cautiously and flexibly, and growth will be driven by providing experiences. In Hong Kong, there will be further efforts to enhance market opportunities for beer in high-end dining and to offer immersive experience activities to reach more customer segments.

Arindam noted that due to inflation and macroeconomic uncertainties, consumers are becoming more cautious about purchasing beer, placing greater emphasis on cost-effectiveness, and showing more interest in affordable high-end and specialty beverages. He said, "They are focusing more on experiences rather than quantity."

Carlsberg Group owns several beer brands, including Carlsberg, Kronenbourg 1664, and Tuborg. Last year, it launched the "Carlsberg Set Sail" strategy aimed at promoting high-end brand development. Varanasi pointed out that high-end products have become the main source of revenue, and the group continues to invest in seeking to increase market share in the niche segments of each brand.

Varanasi stated that although investment costs remain volatile, the company will carefully evaluate whether to pass upstream costs onto consumers, strictly control costs, and provide value to consumers. He cited that the 1664 brand has introduced a marketing concept in Asia that celebrates personality, culture, and creativity, in line with the festive atmosphere in Asia.

## Consumers Value Cost-Effectiveness and Experience

Regarding the Hong Kong market, he pointed out that the local beer market is mature and value-oriented. Consumers often pursue international brands, high-end experiences, and products related to lifestyle, which is also one of the strategic hubs for Carlsberg Asia's high-end positioning. He mentioned that Hong Kong has not only traditional retail channels and dining venues but also a vibrant bar culture, with many world-class bars, further enhancing market opportunities for beer in high-end dining settings. The group will also provide immersive experience activities in Hong Kong to reach more customer segments
