The European Union is considering a grace period for its internal combustion engine ban under pressure from major automotive manufacturing countries. The Commission plans to announce rule modifications next week that will conditionally allow the use of internal combustion engines in plug-in hybrid vehicles to be extended until 2040. The EU's transition to battery electric vehicles has gone off track, as countries like Germany have canceled purchase incentives, leading to a slowdown in the sales growth of new battery electric vehicles, with a highly uneven adoption rate among some countries
