# Refers to the store selling counterfeit jewelry, Louis Vuitton sues ValueMax in the High Court | Lianhe Zaobao

French luxury goods group Louis Vuitton has sued ValueMax Retail, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Singapore-listed ValueMax Group, for trademark infringement and false designation.

ValueMax Retail has denied these allegations, stating that the markings on the relevant products are different from and not similar to Louis Vuitton's trademarks. The company engages in the buying and selling of second-hand gold jewelry and gemstones, luxury watches, and designer handbags, acquiring goods from various sources, including second-hand dealers, shops, and consumers.

The lawsuit held a case conference on Tuesday (December 16).

Louis Vuitton issued a claim in September this year, accusing ValueMax Retail of selling jewelry with one or more trademarks identical or similar to Louis Vuitton's at its retail store on Yishun Avenue 22 in July and August 2024. Additionally, Louis Vuitton alleged that the store sold a gold pendant on August 5, 2025, and also promoted a pair of gold earrings. Louis Vuitton claims these are counterfeit goods infringing the company's trademarks.

Louis Vuitton has registered four trademarks in Singapore, including the "Louis Vuitton" letter combination and three patterns. Louis Vuitton stated that the company's brand is the most valuable in the world and is also the most frequently counterfeited luxury brand globally, making it necessary to prevent such infringement, as the company's reputation and credibility could be harmed by counterfeit products.

### Accusations of Claiming Counterfeit Goods as Louis Vuitton Products: ValueMax Retail Denies All Allegations

Louis Vuitton further alleged that ValueMax Retail made false statements to the public, claiming that these jewelry items are Louis Vuitton products or that there is an economic connection or relationship between these items and Louis Vuitton. This not only confuses consumers but also harms Louis Vuitton's interests and undermines the uniqueness of the company's trademarks.

According to the Trademarks Act, the compensation for each trademark infringement of goods or services is up to SGD 100,000, with a total cap of SGD 1 million, unless the claimant can prove that the actual loss exceeds SGD 1 million.

Louis Vuitton has also applied to the High Court for an injunction to prevent ValueMax Retail from infringing on the Louis Vuitton trademark, counterfeiting or attempting to counterfeit Louis Vuitton products, and falsely claiming an economic association or relationship with Louis Vuitton.

ValueMax Retail denies all allegations and points out that the retail store selling the related products is a legitimate storefront. The company also did not falsely claim the source of the related products or assert any economic association or relationship with Louis Vuitton.

The company also refutes the claim that it is a direct competitor of Louis Vuitton, as its business nature is different from that of Louis Vuitton
