# 7 new three-year ITE courses to start in 2026; full transition to streamlined Higher Nitec structure

The three-year Higher Nitec curricular structure has been progressively implemented since 2022.

SINGAPORE - More students will be able to pursue three-year Higher Nitec courses at the Institute of Technical Education (ITE), with the addition of seven such programmes in 2026.

This will bring the total number of three-year Higher Nitec courses to 49.

In a statement on Dec 18, the institute said this move marks the full transition of ITE’s Nitec courses to the three-year Higher Nitec curricular structure.

The three-year structure, progressively implemented since 2022, allows students to have their route to advanced certification shortened from four years to three, said ITE.

Previously, students spent two years attaining their Nitec qualification. After that, some students entered the workforce while others spent another two years getting their Higher Nitec qualifications.

The new three-year courses are:

- Higher Nitec in Advanced Manufacturing
- Higher Nitec in Aerospace Engineering
- Higher Nitec in Automotive Engineering
- Higher Nitec in Marine & Offshore Engineering
- Higher Nitec in Mechanical Engineering
- Higher Nitec in Mechatronics Engineering
- Higher Nitec in Rapid Transit Engineering

In the enhanced curriculum with an increased focus on internships, most students will undertake two stints of work experience, a three-month stint in the second year of study and another six-month stint in their third year, said ITE.

The courses are open to students with the aptitude to complete the three-year Higher Nitec programme in just two years. The courses are also open to O-level holders and students entering ITE through the Direct Entry Scheme to Polytechnic Programme.

O-level and N-level students can apply for the courses through the Joint Intake Exercise from 2.30pm on Dec 18 to 5pm on Dec 22, said ITE.

More information on specific course requirements can be found on the ITE website.
