# Economists: Thanksgiving sales + Trump government shutdown may distort U.S. CPI data

Some economists point out that, given the discount activities during "Black Friday" after Thanksgiving in November, such delays may lead to data distortion. Wells Fargo economists noted in a report: "The slowdown almost involves all categories, which deepens our concerns about data issues caused by the government shutdown. Data collection did not start until late November, which may cause sample bias to exceed our previous expectations." (Bloomberg)
