# U.S. media: TikTok signs joint venture agreement to resolve the threat of U.S. ban

(Agence France-Presse Washington, 18th) U.S. media reported that the short video platform TikTok announced today that it has signed a joint venture agreement with investors, allowing them to continue operating in the United States and avoiding the threat of a ban due to Chinese ownership.

Bloomberg and news media Axios cited an internal memo reporting that TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew told employees that TikTok and its Chinese parent company ByteDance have agreed to establish a new entity, with major investors including Oracle, private equity firm Silver Lake, and the Abu Dhabi-based investment institution MGX.

This agreement largely confirms the announcement made by the White House in September of this year.

At that time, the White House stated that the newly established joint venture would comply with a legal requirement passed in 2024, which stipulates that if ByteDance retains majority ownership, the popular app in the United States would face the fate of being banned. (Translated by: Xu Ruicheng)
