On December 19, New York Governor Kathy Hochul signed relevant legislation (A.B. 6453, which will take effect on January 1, 2027), making the state the second in the United States to impose restrictions on advanced artificial intelligence (AI). AI developers will be held legally responsible for cyberattacks and other destructive incidents caused by their systems, and they must develop safety plans and alert regulators within 72 hours of discovering a threatening incident. This legislation applies to companies with annual revenues exceeding $500 million, with fines ranging from $1 million for the first violation to $3 million for subsequent violations
