(Image credit: Yangwang) BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) ultra-luxury sub-brand Yangwang has introduced a special exterior edition for its U9 electric supercar to commemorate its achievements at Germany's Nürburgring circuit. Yangwang today added this green exterior option to the U9, which previously offered purple, red, and silver exterior choices. The U9 starts at RMB 1.8 million ($256,260). Customers selecting this special edition must pay an additional RMB 50,000 for the exterior option and RMB 30,000 for the exclusive interior. Join us on Telegram or Google News This commemorates the U9 Xtreme achieving a lap time of 6 minutes 59.157 seconds at Germany's Nürburgring in September, making it the first pure-electric production vehicle to break the 7-minute mark on the circuit. Additionally, the model attained an officially certified top speed of 496.22 km/h at Germany's ATP test track, securing the world record for production vehicles. The new version draws inspiration from the blurred forest views outside the windows during high-speed driving, where overlapping shades of green merge into a unique hue, the brand said. The standard Yangwang U9 was launched in China on February 25, 2024, with the two-seat electric supercar initially priced starting at RMB 1.68 million. On September 20 this year, Yangwang unveiled the U9 Xtreme and opened pre-orders, with a global production run limited to 30 units. The U9 Xtreme employs a more powerful powertrain, with each motor delivering a peak output of 555 kW. The four motors collectively produce 2,220 kW (2,977 horsepower). The standard U9 features four motors with 240 kW peak power each, delivering a combined 960 kW (1,287 horsepower). On October 16, the starting price for the Yangwang U9 was adjusted to RMB 1.8 million, an increase of RMB 120,000 or 7.14 percent from the previous price. By the end of November, Yangwang had sold a cumulative total of 182 U9 units, according to data compiled by CnEVPost. Yangwang sold 703 vehicles in November, including 526 units of the U8 series -- comprising the U8 and U8L. The U7 sedan sold 176 units in November, while the U9 sold 1 unit.
