# Venezuela's representative speaks at the Security Council, criticizing the United States for rampant extortion

(Agence France-Presse New York, 23rd) Venezuela's ambassador to the United Nations, Samuel Moncada, stated today that Washington is conducting its "largest extortion in history" against the country after the United States announced a blockade on sanctioned oil tankers traveling to and from Venezuela.

Moncada said at the United Nations Security Council, "We are facing a power that is outside of international law, demanding that Venezuelans give up their country and hand it over to the United States."
