# Waymo explains why its self-driving taxis clogged the streets of San Francisco during a power outage

Waymo, the autonomous driving car company under Google's parent company Alphabet, stated that its autonomous vehicles perform as designed when encountering intersections with traffic lights turned off, treating them as "four-way stops." The issue lies in the scale. The statement noted that Waymo "may occasionally request confirmation checks" when faced with traffic lights turned off, to "ensure the safest choice is made."
