Today, a second employee lost his life as a result of theaccident. "On behalf of Elkem's management and all our colleagues, I wish to extend ourheartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of our colleagues wholosttheir lives. Our company is in shock at the loss of two valued colleagues. Weare fully committed to supporting our employees and their families in everywaypossible during this terrible time," said Elkem CEO Helge Aasen. Two employees remain hospitalised following the accident. Elkem's managementisworking closely with local authorities to coordinate the handling of theaccident. Psychological support services are being provided to all employeesaffected. Elkem has temporarily shut down operations at both the North andSouthsites in Saint-Fons on 22 December, 1.5 days ahead of year-end closure thatwasscheduled to last until 5 January 2026.
