On December 30, the Tunisian government issued a statement announcing that President Saied has decided to extend the state of emergency, which was set to expire on December 31, for one month, from January 1, 2026, to January 30, 2026.

On November 24, 2015, a presidential guard vehicle in the center of Tunis, the capital of Tunisia, was targeted in a suicide bombing, resulting in the deaths of 12 security personnel. Following this, Tunisia entered a state of emergency, and a curfew was temporarily imposed in the capital.

Since the implementation of the state of emergency that year, successive Tunisian presidents have continued the state of emergency, which has yet to be lifted. (CCTV)
