# ‘Best travel buddy’: China kitten famous for riding with truck driver owner, holding handrail

A travelling cat in China has been humorously likened to a bus conductor after videos of him riding with ease with a truck driver went viral.\\nThe driver from northern China’s Hebei province, nicknamed Xiangzi, describes his eight-month-old tuxedo cat Jiaozi, which means “dumpling”, as his “best travel buddy”.\\nIn December, video clips of Jiaozi comfortably sitting alongside the truck’s front window with its paws on a handrail went viral on mainland social media.\\n\\nThe two most popular videos on Xiangzi’s account, which has 60,000 followers, have 1.4 million and 630,000 likes respectively.\\nIn some videos, Jiaozi appears to be enjoying the view outside the window despite the bumpy ride. In others, he holds onto the handrail while licking catnip that his owner put down near his spot.\\nXiangzi also placed a mat and the cat litter box next to the spot.\\n\\nThe driver said Jiaozi had been riding with him since he was one month old, and grew from a carsick kitten to his 7.5kg co-pilot, “supervising” his driving and taking care of the goods he transports.\\nHowever, some online observers said that Jiaozi’s composed and sometimes triumphant look mostly reminded them of a bus conductor, usually the most powerful role on buses and coaches.\\n“This is the first time I have seen a cat conductor in real life,” said one person.\\n“He even knows to hold the handrail when the road is bumpy,” said another.\\n“He is a cat that has seen the world,” said a third.\\nSome people reminded the driver of safety issues.\\n\\n“It is better to put him in a cage while driving. What if he gets startled and dashes under the brake pedal?” one concerned person said.\\nSome marvelled at the cat’s adaptability to the environment, pointing out that cars might trigger stress in some felines. They also called on other drivers to not blindly copy Xiangzi.\\nPreviously, another truck driver amassed 700,000 followers online by travelling with nine cats he adopted on his travels.\\nThe man was nicknamed “the truck king of cats”.\\nHe reportedly ended his four decades as a truck driver this year, but still constantly posted his retired life with his little travel pals.\\nXiangzi said that with Jiaozi for company he “feels happy despite the exhausting work”.\\n
