# What does the surge in commodities mean?

Goldman Sachs' Privorotsky believes:

**"...this either signals a comprehensive depreciation of the dollar or indicates a rapid recovery of the global economy."**

Chart 1 shows the comparison between the commodity index and the U.S. 5-year Treasury yield. Chart 2 shows the comparison between the commodity index and the dollar index (DXY). Since April, the dollar has been relatively flat, while the commodity index has surged.
