# Experts: This year, various regions will face carbon assessments for the first time, and many places have already felt the pressure

Jiang Bing, Deputy Secretary-General of the China Energy Research Society and Chairman of the Carbon Neutrality Special Committee, stated at the "2026 China New Energy Power Roundtable" thematic exchange meeting that 2026 is the true "dual carbon year" for China, and the emission reduction tasks have transitioned from preliminary preparations to substantive tackling stages. According to the central deployment and the State Council's work plan, the "commanding baton" for carbon emission assessment has fundamentally changed: during the 14th Five-Year Plan, the focus was on controlling carbon emission intensity, which will shift to controlling total carbon emissions after reaching the carbon peak
