Death Toll From Blast at China's Baotou Steel Plant Rises to Nine, Report Says

An explosion at Inner Mongolia Baotou Steel Union has resulted in nine fatalities and one missing person. The blast occurred on January 18, originating from a saturated water and steam tank, injuring 84 individuals. The company has activated an emergency response and is assessing damage, which may impact production lines. The incident is expected to prompt safety inspections in the steel industry, potentially affecting steel prices. Despite this, the overall steel market may continue to decline due to a weak real estate market and reduced exports. Baotou Steel reported a 40% increase in net profit but a revenue drop of 11% in the first half of last year.
