He said smart glasses are likely to replace phones as the main way people use AI over time. According to Hassabis, phones work today, but they are not ideal for daily AI help. Instead, glasses allow hands-free use while cooking, walking, or asking for help. ### Claim 50% Off TipRanks Premium - Unlock hedge fund-level data and powerful investing tools for smarter, sharper decisions - Stay ahead of the market with the latest news and analysis and maximize your portfolio's potential "I'm not sure that glasses will be the final form, but it's definitely an outstanding form," Hassabis said. In addition, he said early smart glasses failed due to weak batteries and a lack of clear use. Now, he believes AI tools like Gemini can fill that gap. Google's parent, Alphabet, has already announced plans to launch AI glasses in 2026 with partners like Samsung (SSNLF) and Warby Parker (WRBY). ## **AI Progress and the Road Ahead** At the same time, Hassabis said AI progress is moving far faster than past tech shifts. He compared the pace to the Industrial Revolution but said today's change is much faster. Looking ahead, he kept his view that there is a 50% chance AI reaches human-level skills by 2030. However, he added that key work is still needed in memory and long-term thinking. Meanwhile, Hassabis said China has closed much of the AI gap with the West. Even so, he said Chinese firms are better at catching up than leading new ideas. "They're very good at catching up to where the frontier is," he said. Finally, Hassabis confirmed Google has no plans to add ads to Gemini. That stance sets it apart from other AI tools that are testing paid content.
