# Local stock market rises at the opening on Thursday | Lianhe Zaobao

The Singapore stock market opened higher on Thursday (January 22) following the overnight rise in U.S. stocks. As of 9:05 AM, the Straits Times Index rose by 0.59% or 28.53 points, reporting at 4838.41 points.

The total trading volume was 263.94 million shares, with a turnover of SGD 144.17 million. There were 126 advancing stocks and 39 declining stocks.

Most of the constituents of the index rose, with increases ranging from 0.20% to 1.76%; JMH USD had the largest gain.
