# Global news you need to know before Monday's U.S. stock market opens

In November, U.S. durable goods orders rose by 5.3% month-on-month, marking the largest increase in six months. Predictions indicate that the likelihood of a U.S. government shutdown is close to 80%. The Japanese yen continues to rise, with the Bank of Japan not clearly intervening in the foreign exchange market. The European Union has approved a ban on Russian natural gas.
