# Schneider launches new DC charging system with up to 720 kW

The StarCharge Fast 720 is a split-unit solution comprising a central switchgear cabinet and compact charging satellites. Up to six satellites, each with two CCS charging points, can be connected to a single charging cabinet, providing a total of up to twelve charging points.

In the maximum configuration, 720 kW is distributed across twelve vehicles charging simultaneously, delivering 60 kW per charging point. If a customer requires a higher minimum charging power, two switchgear cabinets can be used for twelve charging points—providing up to 120 kW per point. Alternatively, even more power is available if not all charging points are in use at the same time. The system supports voltages ranging from 150 to 1,000 volts and is designed for a charging current of 380 amperes, which can be temporarily boosted to up to 600 amperes.

Schneider Electric aims to address a variety of charging scenarios for electric cars, electric trucks, and electric buses with this new charging solution. For overnight depot charging over several hours, a constant charging power of 60 kW may be sufficient to fully charge the battery of an electric bus by the start of service the next morning, depending on the vehicle model and application. Schneider highlights the StarCharge Fast 720’s 97% efficiency, its dynamic load management, and the flexibility of the charging system.

“The solution’s decentralised architecture offers unmatched flexibility. Operators can position up to six dispensers within an 80-meter radius of the power cabinet, enabling scalable configurations for any site,” said Schneider Electric. “This design minimizes grid connections, simplifies installation, and reduces noise for a better user experience.”

In addition to supplying the charging systems, the company also offers lifecycle support, ‘from installation to tailored maintenance plans, backed by 24/7 assistance and remote monitoring via Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure Energy Asset Portal.’ It is designed to maximise uptime while improving cost efficiency for operators.

Different variants of the hardware components are available to meet customer requirements. The switchgear cabinet, for example, is offered with 30 kW power modules, covering a system power range of 360 to 480 kW—depending on the number of modules installed. If the customer opts for 40 kW power modules, charging power of between 480 and 720 kW per switchgear cabinet is possible. The charging satellites are available in three variants: one version without integrated cable management, where the long CCS charging cables lie on the ground, and two versions with cable management, which differ in the number of displays. Each of the slim but tall columns features a status LED in the top-mounted ring and always includes two CCS charging points. Options with only one CCS connection per satellite or MCS systems are not listed in the catalogue.
