On Monday (January 26), the South African FTSE/JSE Africa Leading 40 Index closed up 2.06%, reaching a record closing high above 116,500 points. Year-to-date in 2026, it has risen 8.09%, while the South African Rand has appreciated 3.65% against the US Dollar, and spot gold has increased by 17.99%.

Component stock Gold Fields (GFI.SJ) rose 8.04%, hitting a new closing historical high after several days; AngloGold Ashanti (ANG) increased by 7.96%, also reaching a new closing historical high after several days; Impala Platinum Holdings Limited (IMP) rose 5.06%, the third largest increase, continuing to set a new closing historical high
