# AI Medical Industry Growth Example | Lin Xiao-Zhen

Earlier this week, I was invited to participate in the annual financial event - the "Asian Financial Forum" (AFF). As always, the forum gathered financial officials and leaders from various countries to analyze the global economic outlook and asset market trends. This year, a new "Global Industry Summit" was added to discuss several timely industry topics, including Chinese companies going overseas, artificial intelligence, and medical technology. Coincidentally, I recently met with the management of Peking University Resources (618), and the company's latest business transformation aligns perfectly with these "keywords."

## Updating Traditional Chinese Medicine

Like many of my readers, when I experience minor health issues or show signs of "sub-health," I often seek treatment from a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner. Many times, the symptoms are alleviated, making me admire the thousands of years of history behind traditional Chinese medicine. Jason Huang Qihao, the chairman of Peking University Resources, recognizes the solid foundation of the traditional Chinese medicine industry and believes it is ready for modernization by integrating new technologies to create substantial benefits. Therefore, he decided to make this the core business of the company's transformation.

Peking University Resources acquired Wuhan "Ye Kaitai Pharmaceutical," which has nearly 400 years of history, as the first step in its transformation. After the acquisition, Jason upgraded and transformed the traditional pharmacy, introducing modern management and constructing an innovative model of "Pharmacy + Traditional Chinese Medicine Diagnosis + Chinese Medicine Derivative Services" under the "Big Health +" concept. With systematic corporate management, the business was able to expand rapidly. As of March last year, Ye Kaitai had already operated 47 chain stores, 11 traditional Chinese medicine clinics, and 3 dermatology clinics, with revenue doubling.

## Promoting AI-Assisted Tongue and Pulse Analysis

Modernizing the pharmacy and clinics is just the first step in the transformation plan. In the age of AI, data is king. The company effectively utilizes the clinical data collected from daily operations at the clinics to develop the "Ye Kaitai AI Health App," providing patients with pre-consultation and post-management services. The app also features innovative AI-assisted analysis of tongue and pulse conditions, as well as lifestyle assessments, allowing doctors to better understand patients' situations while continuously providing timely health guidance and preventive advice. This not only enhances treatment effectiveness but also significantly improves user loyalty.

## Medical Technology Companies Going Overseas Become "Hot Commodities"

As shared by several industry experts at the AFF, medical technology is a field that countries around the world are keen to invest in. Therefore, mainland companies bringing AI-driven medical technology overseas naturally become favorites among international partners. Peking University Resources has chosen the wealthiest market in the Middle East - the United Arab Emirates - as its pilot for going overseas, constructing an AI medical data and service platform named ResoHealth for the local area, serving as the backend data engine for medical institutions, and has already obtained certification from the Dubai Health Authority (DHA).

However, if medical institutions operate independently in terms of data, the benefits are quite limited. Therefore, Peking University Resources has also developed the Letsgo platform, which connects the front end of the Ye Kaitai Health App with the backend ResoHealth, while linking doctors, clinics, insurance companies, and laboratories in the UAE and Gulf countries. This not only makes the entire medical process smoother and more integrated, thereby improving efficiency, but more importantly, it brings about AI data analysis, health risk assessments, and a synergistic effect in healthcare

## Considering the Weaker Digital Infrastructure in Developing Regions

Following the UAE, the company is also expanding its business to India and East Africa, including the establishment of a joint venture with India's Trivitron Healthcare to integrate Letsgo and Yekaitai services into local diagnostic centers and smart hospital systems. Recently, it announced the launch of Trivitron Digital AI, providing innovative solutions for local healthcare institutions, including a one-stop platform with features such as a Laboratory Information Management System (LIS), a web-based Picture Archiving and Communication System (Web-PACS), and personal health records.

Many mainland enterprises venture abroad, thinking that simply transferring their effective practices from the mainland to other markets will suffice, only to find themselves facing a mismatch. The success of Peking University Resources in "localization" serves as a great example. For instance, when developing the Indian market, the company particularly considered the local level of digitization, which is lower compared to its previous markets, such as the mainland and the UAE. Therefore, during the system development process, the requirements for digital infrastructure were minimized to make the system easier to implement.

## Extending from Treatment to Longevity Solutions

Of course, digitizing the medical process and combining it with AI computing can greatly enhance the efficiency of clinical diagnosis and treatment. However, the larger blue ocean for medical AI lies in using clinical data for research to understand the causes of diseases and develop new prevention and treatment plans. Therefore, Peking University Resources has also established a Global AI Medical Innovation Committee, bringing together experts in AI, genetics, and precision medicine to launch a longevity program that achieves personalized longevity management through DNA and epigenetic testing.
