# Two departments: Classification and improvement of the electricity price mechanism for coal power, gas power, pumped storage, and new energy storage capacity

Recently, the National Development and Reform Commission and the National Energy Administration jointly issued the "Notice on Improving the Capacity Price Mechanism for Power Generation." The "Notice" proposes to improve the capacity price mechanisms for coal power, gas power, pumped storage, and new energy storage in accordance with the needs of the new power system and electricity market construction. First, localities should raise the capacity price standards for coal power based on actual conditions and may refer to coal power to establish a capacity price mechanism for gas power; second, for newly constructed pumped storage power stations in recent years, a unified local capacity price should be set based on the principle of compensating for average costs; third, an independent capacity price mechanism for new energy storage on the grid side should be established, determining the capacity price standards based on factors such as discharge duration and peak contribution.
