German sportswear brand Adidas reported operating profits last quarter that exceeded expectations, with its stock price rising about 5%. The German DAX index increased by 219 points or 0.9%, closing at 24,529 points.

The UK FTSE 100 index rose by 44 points or 0.4%, closing at 10,216 points.
