# Trump expresses hope to reach an agreement with Iran

On January 30, U.S. President Trump stated at the White House that the U.S. is deploying more naval forces towards Iran than it did in its previous actions against Venezuela. Trump expressed that the U.S. hopes to reach an agreement with Iran, and if that is not possible, "we will wait and see how things develop." He also mentioned that the situation in Venezuela is progressing well, and that he is "getting along very well" with the local leadership. On the 28th, Trump stated on social media that the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group is heading towards Iran, and that this group is "larger" than the one sent to Venezuela, urging Iran to come to the negotiating table quickly. Additionally, reports indicate that Trump is "considering launching a new major strike against Iran." Ali Shamkhani, a political advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei, stated on the 28th that Iran will consider any military action from the U.S. as the beginning of war, and that once the U.S. takes any military action, Iran will immediately implement a comprehensive and unprecedented counterattack targeting Israel's core areas.
