# SpaceX applies to deploy 1 million satellites to create a space data center

> SpaceX is applying to launch and operate a constellation of up to 1 million satellites, aimed at supporting artificial intelligence applications for billions of users worldwide. These satellites will be deployed in orbits ranging from 500 to 2000 kilometers, powered by solar energy, and connected to the existing Starlink network via optical links. SpaceX stated that this move is the first step towards becoming a Type II Kardashev civilization, aiming to transform space into the world's largest artificial intelligence data center

A new document from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) shows that SpaceX is applying to launch and operate a constellation of up to 1 million satellites, which will have unprecedented computing power (orbital data centers) to support advanced artificial intelligence.
