# The value-added tax on telecommunications services for the three major Chinese telecom operators has been raised to 9%, which is expected to impact revenue and profits

The three major Chinese telecommunications companies have stated that starting this year, the scope of value-added tax (VAT) on telecommunications services has been adjusted, with the corresponding VAT rate increased from 6% to 9%, which is expected to impact revenue and profits.

## Applicable Tax Items Adjusted

The three telecommunications companies pointed out that starting this year, business activities in the domestic market that provide mobile data services, SMS and MMS services, and internet broadband access services using fixed networks, mobile networks, satellites, and the internet will have their applicable tax items adjusted from "value-added telecommunications services" to "basic telecommunications services," with the corresponding VAT rate adjusted from 6% to 9%.
