After a sharp decline in the past two trading days, the Hong Kong stock market rebounded, with the Hang Seng Index opening up 220 points or 0.8% at 26,995 points; the National Index opened up 53 points or 0.6% at 9,133 points; and the Hang Seng Tech Index opened up 37 points or 0.7% at 5,563 points.
Commodity prices rose during the Asian session, with China Gold International (02099.HK), Zijin Mining (02899.HK), and Shandong Gold (01787.HK) opening up 3.2% to 3.6%, and Zhaojin Mining (01818.HK) opening up 5.1%. Additionally, Jiangxi Copper (00358.HK) opened up 3.7%, while China Minmetals Rare Earth (01208.HK) and China Molybdenum (03993.HK) opened up 6.1% and 5.7%, respectively.
In the financial sector, HSBC Holdings (00005.HK) opened up 3% at HKD 138.7. According to Société Générale, HSBC has six driving factors this year, including rising net interest income, momentum in wealth management, and gradually diminishing risks in Hong Kong's commercial real estate. AIA Group (01299.HK) opened up 1.5% at HKD 90.4, while Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (00388.HK) opened flat at HKD 424.2.
In the technology sector, Tencent (00700.HK) opened flat at HKD 598.5, Alibaba (09988.HK) and Kuaishou (01024.HK) opened up 1.3% and 1.2%, respectively. Meituan (03690.HK) and JD.com (09618.HK) opened up 0.3% and 0.5%, respectively, while Baidu (09888.HK) opened down 0.3%. NetEase (09999.HK) and New Oriental (09901.HK) opened up 3.6% and 2.7%, respectively, and Bilibili (09626.HK) opened up 2.1%.
In the chip sector, SMIC (00981.HK) and Hua Hong Semiconductor (01347.HK) opened up 1.4% and 3.2%, respectively. AI stock Yunzhisheng (09678.HK) saw a discount of 17.7% in its placement, raising a net of HKD 307 million, with its stock price opening down 5.4%.
In the automotive sector, BYD (01211.HK) opened up 0.1% at HKD 91.1, Xiaomi (01810.HK) opened down 0.7%, while Nio (09866.HK) and XPeng (09868.HK) opened down 3% and 2.1%, respectively. Geely (00175.HK) opened up 1%.
In other stocks, Hengan International (01044.HK) opened down 2.1%. Dongpeng Beverage (09980.HK) debuted at HKD 248, unchanged from its listing price
