# Amazon withdraws from Asia Square Tower 1, SMC ELECTRIC may become the new tenant | Lianhe Zaobao

E-commerce giant Amazon is preparing to vacate Asia Square Tower 1, and Shell may become the new tenant.

Since 2021, Amazon has been leasing approximately 100,000 square feet of office space in Asia Square Tower 1. According to The Business Times, the lease is set to expire in July this year.

If negotiations are successful and a contract is signed smoothly, Shell will become the new tenant of the aforementioned office space. Currently, Shell's Singapore office is located at The Metropolis.

The building was recently sold by the Qatar Investment Authority to Hongkong Land, which launched a Singapore Central Private Real Estate Fund.

Last April, Shell sold its integrated refining and chemical assets located on Pulau Bukom and Jurong Island to shift towards more profitable businesses in the region.

Shell also indicated at that time that it remains committed to deepening its presence in Singapore and views the country as an important regional hub for marketing and trading operations
