description: "SoFi Technologies (NASDAQ:SOFI) stock has dropped about 4%, down 22% year-to-date. Analyst Devin Ryan suggests this decline is due to a market risk-off rotation affecting high-growth stocks. He believes the sell-off presents a buying opportunity, citing SoFi's growth in members and products, profitability momentum, and strategic flexibility. Ryan upgraded his rating from Neutral to Buy, with a price target of $30, indicating a potential 43% gain. Despite mixed analyst opinions, the consensus suggests a 30% return over the next year."

**SoFi Technologies (****NASDAQ:SOFI****)** stock is under pressure again today, slipping about 4% and extending what has already been a rough stretch. Shares are now down 22% year-to-date and sit about 36% below the highs reached toward the end of last year.

Looking at the situation, Citizens' Devin Ryan, an analyst ranked among the top 1% on Wall Street, has an idea why the stock is out of favor right now.

"We believe the market's recent risk-off rotation has penalized higher-growth/'speculative-adjacent' narratives (e.g., crypto, software, AI), even as many macro proxies (e.g., regional banks) have held up and even moved higher in recent weeks," the 5-star analyst said.

As such, Ryan thinks the recent sell-off reflects less of a concern about near-term macro conditions and more of a combination of "style factor compression and technicals," which is creating an attractive entry point into a business that is appealing on several fronts.

Appealing how, then? Well, for one, it is "compounding at scale" through member and product growth alongside platform monetization. Ryan believes SoFi's "one-stop shop" strategy is showing up in tangible cross-sell gains and higher engagement, with the company reporting that 40% of new products are opened by existing members, while record member and product additions highlight the "expanding ecosystem."

Meanwhile, the company is also steadily shifting its revenue mix toward "fee-based/capital-light streams," and developing underappreciated optionality across blockchain. In Q4, SoFi became the first nationally chartered bank to introduce consumer-facing crypto trading alongside its own stablecoin, SoFiUSD, issued on a public blockchain – AI, business banking, and new loan platform offerings.

There has been a noticeable shift in Ryan's view over a short period of time. It was less than 2 weeks ago that SoFi reported Q4 earnings, but since then, Ryan thinks the "risk/reward has improved materially."

> The analyst believes SoFi's fundamentals and medium-term algorithm look "increasingly de-risked," supported by record-scale metrics. The company exited Q4 with 13.7 million members, up 35% year-over-year, and 20.2 million products, up 37% y/y, alongside record quarterly additions. "Profitability momentum" has also continued to build, with Q4 adjusted EBITDA of $318 million, up 60% y/y, and the company delivering its ninth consecutive quarter of GAAP profitability. At the same time, the earnings power outlook has become clearer, as management's long-term framework points to roughly $1.02–$1.12 of EPS by 2028 based on its 38–42% EPS CAGR assumptions. Finally, strategic flexibility has increased, with the company adding well over $3 billion of incremental capital since the second half of 2025, expanding optionality, including for M&A.

"In short," Ryan summed up, "we believe the stock has de-rated, while the business has continued to execute and broaden."

To this end, Ryan has upgraded his SOFI rating from Perform (i.e., Neutral) to Outperform (i.e., Buy), while his price target lands at $30, suggesting the stock will gain 43% in the months ahead. (To watch Ryan's track record, click here)

4 other analysts are also SOFI bulls, but with an additional 7 Holds and 3 Sells, the stock only claims a Hold (i.e., Neutral) consensus rating. Nevertheless, the forecast calls for one-year returns of 30%, considering the average target clocks in at $26.41. (See SOFI stock forecast)
