# Cathay Pacific's repurchase of Qatar Airways shares received overwhelming approval, and the chairman expressed gratitude to Swire and Air China for their support

Cathay Pacific (293) passed the proposal to repurchase shares from its third-largest shareholder, Qatar Airways, with a large majority at the special shareholders' meeting on Thursday (12). Cathay Pacific Chairman Augustus Tang stated that this move reflects confidence in the long-term business outlook. Cathay Pacific's stock price closed down 1.5% at HKD 12.77 at noon.

Tang expressed heartfelt gratitude to Qatar Airways for its steadfast support over the years and thanked major shareholders Swire (019) and Air China (753) for their consistent trust and support.

In the repurchase proposal, Cathay Pacific received over 99.9% approval votes to repurchase shares from Qatar Airways, including votes from Swire and Air China, while opposing votes were only 0.003%.

Qatar Airways holds 9.57% of Cathay Pacific's shares, and Cathay will repurchase them at HKD 10.8374 per share, totaling HKD 6.97 billion. The shares will be canceled, increasing Swire's shareholding ratio from 43.09% to 47.65%, while Air China's shareholding ratio will rise from 27.11% to 29.98%
