The growth capital workgroup will look into areas such as venture capital, private equity and private credit, as well as securitized assets, the Monetary Authority of Singapore and the Ministry of Trade and Industry said Friday. The group will study the "full value chain of financing" from deal origination, capital raising and mobilization, and capital recycling, and aims to complete its work by end-2027, they added. This builds on Singapore's program to boost trading and liquidity in its stock market, where it has set aside $5.15 billion dollars for investing in predominantly local stocks. Private capital markets are a "useful complement" to public markets and bank lending for companies seeking funding, said Singapore's minister for national development, Chee Hong Tat. While the equities-boosting program has driven interest in listed corporates, Singapore also wants to support companies at earlier growth stages, added Chee, who is leading the group. Members includes Temasek's chief executive Dilhan Pillay, DBS Group CEO Tan Su Shan and Andy Tai, Goldman Sachs' head of Southeast Asia investment banking.
