# Interstellar Secures Biggest Financing in China’s Private Commercial Aerospace Industry

(Yicai) Feb. 13 -- Interstellar Glory Aerospace Science and Technology, also known as iSpace, has completed the largest single financing round by a private Chinese commercial aerospace firm.

Interstellar secured more than CNY5 billion (USD729.8 million) in a Series D++ fundraiser on Feb. 9, the Sichuan province-based firm announced yesterday. Cowin Capital and existing shareholder Jingming Capital co-led the financing round, with Spring Partners, Chengdu Industry Group, and Qianlima Capital also taking part.

The proceeds will be mainly used to accelerate the development and commercialization of reusable liquid oxygen and methane carrier rockets, focus on the ‘launch on land, recover at sea’ practice, increase investment in assembly and testing, replenish launch capabilities, and continuously strengthen its industrial layout in Beijing and Shaanxi, Hainan, Sichuan, and Guangdong provinces, Interstellar noted.

The company is in the preparation process for an initial public offering. According to the latest update released at the end of last month, its tutoring was in progress.

Since the second half of last year, financing in the commercial aerospace sector has heated up. Beijing Galactic Energy Space Technology completed a CNY2.4 billion Series D financing round last September, and Space Pioneer secured CNY2.5 billion in two fundraisers the following month.

The size of Interstellar’s financing round was massive, mainly because of the Chinese commercial aerospace industry’s contradiction in supply and demand, according to industry insiders. As China has approved over 200,000 satellites, demand for satellite networking has soared. Interstellar is one of the few private Chinese firms that possess reusable rocket capabilities, rocket recovery at sea, and a reusable assembly plant.

Founded in 2016, Interstellar is one of the earliest private commercial aerospace enterprises in China. In 2019, its Hyperbola-1 Y-1 carrier rocket successfully reached orbit, becoming the first private Chinese enterprise to achieve high-precision orbit insertion.

Interstellar has now shifted its research and development focus to the Hyperbola-3 reusable liquid oxygen and methane rocket, with its maiden flight planned within the year.
