# Costco Sued Over Rotisserie Chicken Safety Claims

Costco Wholesale Corporation (COST, Financials) is facing a proposed class action lawsuit alleging that its rotisserie chicken products may pose a salmonella contamination risk.

The lawsuit, which was filed in federal court in Seattle, references a research from December that an animal rights group talked about. It says that Costco's chicken processing plant in Nebraska has salmonella infection and that the corporation didn't fully tell customers about the hazards.

Lisa Taylor, the complainant from Affton, Missouri, alleged that she often bought one or two rotisserie chickens from Costco stores in the St. Louis region. She says she paid too much for the item since the store didn't tell customers about the supposed contamination issues.

The lawsuit argues that Costco's alleged failure to control salmonella in its supply chain poses a real danger to consumers and violates their trust.

Costco has not publicly responded to the claims. Rotisserie chicken is one of Costco's signature products. The company said at its annual meeting that more than 157 million rotisserie chickens were sold worldwide in 2025, underscoring the product's importance to traffic and brand loyalty.
