Several policymakers hinted that if inflation remains above target, an increase in interest rates may be necessary. The minutes indicated that several participants suggested they originally intended to support a "two-way" description of the future interest rate path to reflect that raising rates could be appropriate if inflation stays above target levels. The vast majority of participants believe that the downside risks to employment have eased in recent months, while inflation may persist. ## Cautious Attitude Towards Further Rate Cuts At this meeting, the FOMC voted 10 to 2 to maintain the benchmark federal funds rate in the range of 3.5% to 3.75%.
