# Chen Meibao: The goal is to continue expanding or signing new aviation agreements with ten new civil aviation partners next year, focusing on potential destinations in South America

> The Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Chen Meibao, stated that after the full operation of the three-runway system at Hong Kong International Airport, the government will actively expand the aviation network, aiming to sign new air service agreements with 10 new civil aviation partners, focusing on potential destinations in South America, Central Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. Last year, bilateral civil aviation arrangements were updated with nine civil aviation partners, and new agreements were successfully signed. The new Terminal 2 will be opened on May 27, aiming to attract emerging airlines and young travelers, helping Hong Kong become an international aviation hub

The Director of the Transport and Logistics Bureau, Chen Meibao, recently stated that with the full operation of the Hong Kong International Airport's three-runway system, the government will make good use of capacity and actively expand the aviation network, hoping to attract more local and non-local airlines to provide services at Hong Kong International Airport. The government is working at full speed, having updated and expanded bilateral civil aviation arrangements with nine civil aviation partners last year, successfully signing new civil aviation agreements with Chile, Peru, Argentina, Ecuador, Cuba, Poland, and Togo. There will be many opportunities for the Airport Authority and partners in the aviation industry to assist Hong Kong in implementing relevant air rights, flights, and destinations.

She revealed that Hong Kong aims to make further progress this year, with the goal of expanding or signing new aviation agreements with 10 new civil aviation partners in the coming year, focusing on potential destinations in South America, Central Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.

Regarding the Airport Authority's plan to open the new Terminal 2 on May 27 this year, Chen Meibao indicated that Terminal 2 will emphasize technology and youthfulness. The government hopes to attract more emerging airlines to bring Hong Kong citizens to new tourism hotspots and attract more young travelers to visit Hong Kong, providing them with a brand-new experience. Relevant government departments, including the Civil Aviation Department, Immigration Department, police, and Hong Kong Customs, will fully cooperate with the Airport Authority to ensure a smooth and seamless opening of Terminal 2.

She also mentioned that this year marks the beginning of the country's 14th Five-Year Plan, and the government will work closely with the Airport Authority and colleagues to actively align with the national 14th Five-Year Plan, further leveraging its advantages to support the development of Hong Kong as an international aviation hub. The government will make good use of the capacity of the three-runway system to further expand passenger and cargo volumes, with the most important goal being to improve the aviation network in the Greater Bay Area, ensuring that Hong Kong International Airport continues to be the heart of global transport and logistics
