# Mack LR Electric garbage trucks help the Bronx breathe better

> Royal Waste Services has successfully deployed its first Mack LR Electric garbage truck, leading to an order for three more due to its impressive performance. The truck, funded by the New York Truck Voucher Incentive Program, collects approximately 75 tons of waste weekly with 100% operational uptime. The transition to electric trucks not only benefits the environment by reducing noise and emissions but also enhances driver comfort and offers cost savings on fuel and maintenance.

Royal Waster Services took delivery of its first Mack LR Electric garbage truck in December — and they’re happy enough with their big EV’s performance to have placed an order for three more, helping Bronx residents sleep in, and breathe easier.

Funded in part by the New York Truck Voucher Incentive Program (NYTVIP) administered by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), that first Mack LR Electric has put in an incredible performance over its first eight weeks of deployment, collecting ~75 tons of waste per week while maintaining 100 percent operational uptime.

“After seeing positive results with our initial Mack LR Electric, and with the support from the voucher incentive program, adding three more units was a natural next step for our fleet,” says Michael Angelo Reali, district manager for Royal Waste Services. “The move to electric propulsion delivers environmental and community benefits, enhances driver comfort, and provides fuel and maintenance cost savings.”

In addition to hauling as much as its diesel stablemates without the noise and noxious gasses of diesel, Royal Waste Svcs’ drivers are reporting reduced fatigue due to the absence of engine vibration, along with improved control and responsiveness compared with the traditional diesel-powered trucks on their tough, stop-and-go collection routes.
