Images circulating on Chinese social media show the new charging facilities featuring a cyan exterior with a "T"-shaped structure, where charging cables naturally hang down from both ends of the top. The distinctive appearance reflects BYD's ambition to build its charging network into a brand asset. In March 2025, BYD unveiled its 1-MW ultra-fast charger, claiming it was the industry's first to use megawatts (MW) as the power measurement unit — marking the dawn of the MW era for charging power. It introduced the Super e-Platform at that time, whose core components include blade batteries supporting ultra-fast charging, high-performance motors, and next-generation silicon carbide power chips. The batteries support charging voltages up to 1,000 V and currents up to 1,000 A, enabling charging power of 1,000 kW (kilowatts) — all representing global records. BYD said it planned to build over 4,000 such facilities, though no specific timeline was provided. On June 1, 2025, BYD announced partnerships with Xiaoju Charging and LongShine to jointly build 10,000 1-MW charging stations with Xiaoju and 5,000 with LongShine. On June 16, 2025, BYD partnered with Teld and Star Charge to jointly advance the adoption of MW-level fast-charging ecosystems in China. According to a Sina report earlier this month, BYD is developing second-generation megawatt flash-charging facilities with a maximum output of 2,100 kW. BYD may construct a multi-tiered supercharging network comprising flagship stations, satellite stations, and community stations, Deutsche Bank analysts said in a February 23 research note. "We have already observed the deployment of BYD's Gen2 systems at highway entrances and within BYD dealership parking areas," Deutsche Bank said. Beyond its ambitious targets in China, BYD has announced plans to invest in building about 3,000 fast-charging stations across Europe by the end of 2026, Deutsche Bank noted. Deutsche Bank expects BYD's sales to rebound in 2026, growing 6% year-on-year to 4.9 million units. The primary driver of this sales recovery will be the launch of BYD's second-generation megawatt flash charging system, which will significantly enhance the company's product competitiveness, the bank said. BYD to start production at Hungarian plant this year; 1-MW ultra-fast chargers to go live in Europe in 2026 The first model to be produced at BYD's Hungarian factory will be the Seagull.
