# Manulife Sells $300M Policy, Sets Guinness World Record

Manulife Financial has set a new benchmark in the ultra-high-net-worth insurance market after Guinness World Records certified its $300 million life insurance policy in Singapore as the most valuable ever issued. The transaction surpasses the previous $250 million record set by HSBC Life in Hong Kong in 2024, underscoring how competition for the region's wealthiest clients may be intensifying. While headline-grabbing in size, the deal could also signal something more structural about demand trends among Asia's richest families.

In its statement Tuesday, Manulife framed the policy as a reflection of rising appetite among ultra-wealthy individuals to preserve and structure their assets. The numbers in Singapore suggest this was not an isolated event: over the past 12 months, the company has issued 25 individual policies there, each valued at more than $50 million. That volume potentially points to a sustained pipeline of large-ticket transactions, rather than a one-off outlier, as insurers expand their footprint in advanced estate planning solutions.

The broader wealth backdrop may help explain the momentum. Singapore is home to 55 billionaires with a combined net worth of about $259 billion, representing a 66% increase from a year earlier, according to the 2025 UBS Billionaire Ambitions report. Roughly 69% of that group is self-made. As this wealth base continues to scale, demand for capital preservation vehicles such as large life insurance policies could remain supported, positioning Manulife to participate in what may be a deepening structural opportunity.
