# European stock markets remain stable, while NVIDIA's decline triggers sector rotation

European stock markets were essentially flat on Thursday, as disappointing earnings from NVIDIA prompted investors to sell off high-flying chip equipment stocks and shift towards stocks that had been battered by concerns over artificial intelligence disruptions.

The Stoxx Europe 600 index closed nearly unchanged after hitting a record high on Wednesday. ASML Holding was the biggest drag on the index, with shares falling 4.3% after NVIDIA's stock declined in U.S. trading following its earnings report on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, UBS's EU AI Risk Basket Index rose 3.8%. Software stocks like SAP AG, advertising companies like WPP Group, and professional publishers like Wiley Group recovered some of their losses from this year.

In other European stock news, shares of the London Stock Exchange rose 9.1% after it announced plans to buy back £3 billion ($4.1 billion) of its own stock. Indra Sistemas saw its stock soar 21% after Morgan Stanley pointed out that the IT company's fourth-quarter performance "significantly exceeded expectations."

European stock markets are poised to rise for the eighth consecutive month, as strong performance in traditional economic sectors has shielded the region from the most severe impacts of artificial intelligence. This has prompted investors to shift funds from U.S. companies to stocks in Germany, France, and the UK
