Commerce Secretary Algernon Yau announced a HK$100 million budget to attract large international exhibitions. The government is collaborating with global organizers to introduce events that have never been held in the city. The exhibitions industry contributes 2.1% to Hong Kong's GDP, with each event generating significant daily spending from attendees. Expansion of key exhibition venues is also planned to accommodate larger events. Hong Kong aims to host fairs on robotics, yachts and small jets – events never before held in the city – to cement its status as an international exhibition hub and attract big spenders, the commerce minister has said. Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Algernon Yau Ying-wah on Sunday said the push was in response to the HK$100 million (US$12.78 million) budgeted to “attract large international exhibitions with new elements to Hong Kong”. Yau said the government was brainstorming with international organisers to bring fairs that “Hong Kong has never hosted before”. “For example, with robots everywhere nowadays, could we organise a robotics exhibition? When we talk about the yacht economy, could we host a yacht show?” he told a radio programme. “A motor show would need a very large venue to showcase different types of vehicles. We could also consider whether a small aircraft exhibition is possible.” Yau said the more large-scale fairs the city hosted, the more economic benefits they would bring to the aviation, tourism and catering industries. He said the exhibitions industry contributed 2.1 per cent to the city’s gross domestic product, and each event drew exhibitors and buyers spending HK$7,000 to HK$8,000 daily during their trips. He said two exhibition venues – the AsiaWorld-Expo in Chek Lap Kok and the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai – would be expanded to host bigger events. The city staged 121 large-scale exhibitions in 2023 and 125 in 2024, mostly trade or trade-and-consumer shows, according to the Hong Kong Exhibition and Convention Industry Association. On Wednesday, Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po said in his budget speech that the HK$100 million fund aimed to make Hong Kong the “first-choice platform for showcasing mainland and international brands”, drawing high-spending business visitors and value-added economic activities. ### Related Stocks - [07200.HK - FL2 CSOP HSI](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/07200.HK.md) - [00HSI.HK - Hang Seng Index](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/00HSI.HK.md) - [03115.HK - ISHARESHSI](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/03115.HK.md) - [03037.HK - CSOP HSI ETF](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/03037.HK.md) - [07300.HK - FI CSOP HSI](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/07300.HK.md) - [02800.HK - TRACKER FUND](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/02800.HK.md) - [07500.HK - FI2 CSOP HSI](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/07500.HK.md) ## Related News & Research | Title | Description | URL | |-------|-------------|-----| | Hong Kong 2026-27 budget: ‘Symphony of Lights’ to go dark under tourism revamp | Hong Kong will discontinue the two-decade-old "A Symphony of Lights" show, replacing it with immersive projections acros | [Link](https://longbridge.com/en/news/276972290.md) | | Budget reveal: government turns matchmaker with stronger hand in shaping economy | Hong Kong's finance chief unveiled a robust budget with a HK$2.9 billion surplus, marking a shift towards a more active | [Link](https://longbridge.com/en/news/276966696.md) | | 15:42 ETZKONG präsentiert auf der EuroShop 2026 intelligente Einzelhandelslösungen der nächsten Generation | At EuroShop 2026, ZKONG showcased its next-generation intelligent retail solutions, emphasizing sustainability and opera | [Link](https://longbridge.com/en/news/277324452.md) | | Hong Kong govt says Q4 GDP +3.8% y/y | Hong Kong govt says Q4 GDP +3.8% y/y | [Link](https://longbridge.com/en/news/276826499.md) | | Hong Kong court rejects appeal in landmark 'Hong Kong 47' subversion case | Hong Kong’s Court of Appeal has rejected an appeal by 12 pro-democracy activists in a significant national security case | [Link](https://longbridge.com/en/news/276558607.md) | --- > **Disclaimer**: This article is for reference only and does not constitute any investment advice.
