# Vodafone will collaborate with Amazon to provide satellite internet services to remote areas in Europe and Africa

British mobile communications giant Vodafone announced on Monday that it has signed an agreement with Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite network Amazon Leo to provide connectivity services for 4G/5G base stations in remote areas of Europe and Africa.

Vodafone stated that Amazon Leo will offer connectivity services with download speeds of up to 1Gbps and upload speeds of 400Mbps, linking Vodafone's network to communication base stations in remote areas, thereby saving on fiber optic deployment costs.

The company mentioned that Vodafone will initially use Amazon Leo to connect mobile base stations in Germany and other European countries this year, and will gradually promote it in Africa through its subsidiary Vodacom.

Vodafone noted that Amazon Leo currently has over 200 satellites in orbit, with hundreds more built and ready for launch.

Additionally, Vodafone plans to collaborate with partner AST SpaceMobile to provide satellite connectivity services for users with regular smartphones, although the service launch date has not yet been determined
