The two parties signed an agreement in Hefei to jointly develop high-performance core materials for solid-state batteries. Gotion is making a major bet on solid-state battery technology, and this transformation holds significant importance for the Hefei-based manufacturer. Once an industry leader, Gotion was overtaken by CATL (HKG: 3750, SHE: 300750) and BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) after missing the opportunity presented by ternary lithium batteries. Throughout 2025, CATL (HKG: 3750, SHE: 300750) and BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) held 39.2% and 16.4% of the global EV battery market share, respectively, according to data from South Korean market research firm SNE Research. Gotion ranked fifth in 2025 with a 4.5% share. Gotion unveiled its all-solid-state battery Gemstone at its 13th technology conference on May 17, 2024, marking its official entry into this emerging battery sector. Several major Chinese battery manufacturers, including CATL and BYD, are targeting small-scale production of all-solid-state batteries around 2027.
