# Meta enters the field of AI shopping

Meta Platforms seems to have taken another step in the artificial intelligence race, this time testing a shopping feature in its chatbot aimed at competing more directly with OpenAI's ChatGPT and Alphabet's Gemini.

This feature is currently being tested with a subset of U.S. users in the Meta AI web experience, allowing people to seek product recommendations in natural language. The chatbot no longer just responds with text but replies with a set of scrollable product images, along with brand names, price details, and purchase links. It also provides a brief explanation of why these products are recommended.

This is a subtle but significant shift. AI tools are increasingly becoming the starting point for shopping research, rather than just search engines. This means that platforms controlling the interface may also influence the flow of consumer spending
