# The Iran war prompts market bets on the US dollar and energy, causing a sharp decline in gold and silver prices

(Agence France-Presse London, 3rd) The Iran war has driven up oil and natural gas prices, leading traders to strategically bet on energy and the US dollar, causing precious metal prices to plummet today.

Gold prices fell by more than 4% at one point, reaching about $5,075 per ounce; silver plummeted over 12%, coming in at just below $78 per ounce.

Kathleen Brooks, head of research at trading platform XTB, told AFP, "The market is flocking to the US dollar and energy," resulting in "investors indiscriminately selling off, including safe-haven assets like gold."
