Image credit: BYD) BYD (HKG: 1211, OTCMKTS: BYDDY) on Thursday began pre-sales of the Song Ultra EV, seeking to expand its edge in the highly competitive mid-size electric sport utility vehicle (SUV) market with faster charging technology and lower prices. BYD is offering four variants of the model, with pre-sales starting prices of 155,000 yuan ($22,490), 165,000 yuan, 175,000 yuan, and 185,000 yuan. The company plans to officially launch the model by the end of March. Customers who place orders during the pre-sales period will receive 18 months of free flash-charging benefits. Join us on Telegram or Google News The Song Ultra EV is the first B-segment pure electric SUV in BYD's Dynasty lineup and the newest member of the Song family. The mid-size SUV measures 4,850 mm in length, 1,910 mm in width and 1,670 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,840 mm. One of the vehicle's key selling points is its fast-charging capability. BYD said the model is equipped with its flash-charging technology and second-generation blade battery, allowing the battery to charge from 10% to 70% in five minutes. According to official data, the vehicle can charge from 10% to 97% in about nine minutes under normal temperatures. Even at minus 30°C, charging time increases by only about three minutes. The Song Ultra EV offers two range options, delivering CLTC ranges of 620 km and 710 km. The model uses a single rear-wheel-drive motor with a maximum output of 270 kW and a top speed of 210 km/h. In terms of smart driving, some variants can be equipped with LiDAR and BYD's God's Eye B driver-assistance system. BYD said the system is built on an end-to-end large AI model architecture combined with reinforcement learning algorithms, enabling smoother assisted driving in narrow streets and complex traffic environments. The vehicle is also equipped with the DiSus-C intelligent body control system and a high-speed tire blowout stability system. BYD said the technology can stabilize the vehicle in the event of a tire blowout at speeds of up to 140 km/h. Inside, the Song Ultra EV features a 15.6-inch central touchscreen and a four-zone voice interaction system, along with seat ventilation, heating and massage functions. As price competition intensifies in China's electric vehicle market, BYD is accelerating the rollout of new models equipped with updated technologies. The Song Ultra EV is expected to compete alongside the Sealion 06 in the mid-size pure electric SUV segment.
