According to the manufacturer, the model range in the United States will be reduced to the upcoming high-performance Ioniq 6 N, which is expected to be available in limited quantities later this year. The Ioniq 6 is currently assembled in South Korea, unlike several other Hyundai electric vehicles sold in the United States. Hyundai produces the Ioniq 5 and the recently introduced Ioniq 9 electric SUVs at its plant near Savannah in the state of Georgia. The change in the US lineup therefore primarily affects the imported electric sedan. However, the Korean carmaker confirmed that the high-performance Ioniq 6 N will continue to be offered in the United States. This is not the first time Hyundai has limited its EV offering in the US. It recently announced that it would not bring the 2026 version of the Kona Electric to the US, as demand was too low and there was enough stock of the 2025 model year to meet this demand. Hyundai’s sister brand Kia has taken a similar path. The manufacturer has confirmed that the 2026 Kia EV6 GT will not be available in the United States for the time being. According to the company, the high-performance electric hatchback will be delayed until further notice due to changing market conditions. Other versions of the EV6 will remain on sale and continue to be assembled at Kia’s plant in West Point, Georgia. Like the Ioniq 6, the EV6 GT is produced in South Korea and imported into the United States. South Korean vehicle imports to the US are subject to tariffs, which can affect the pricing of imported electric vehicles compared with locally produced models. Kia has not specified a new timeline for the return of the EV6 GT to the US market. In addition to the EV6 GT, Kia is also postponing the introduction of two further electric models in the United States: the compact electric sedan called EV4 and the smaller EV3 hatchback.
