He described the videos as hype content, questioning the seriousness of the messaging during a significant international conflict. The White House faced backlash for this approach, with Communications Director Steven Cheung responding to criticism on social media. Tapper also pointed out that the characters featured in the clips are often portrayed as villains in their respective stories, questioning the administration's understanding of good and bad." datetime: "2026-03-07T18:25:13.000Z" locales: - [zh-CN](https://longbridge.com/zh-CN/news/278229248.md) - [en](https://longbridge.com/en/news/278229248.md) - [zh-HK](https://longbridge.com/zh-HK/news/278229248.md) --- # Tapper blasts Trump administration for depicting Iran conflict ‘like a game’ CNN anchor Jake Tapper blasted the Trump administration on Friday for depicting the ongoing conflict in Iran “like a game” after the White House released clips on social media mixing footage of what appeared to be U.S. military strikes with clips from video games and Hollywood productions. “Well, the last day or so, the White House has been in at least one way treating going to war like a game, frivolously releasing what we will charitably call hype videos about their war,” Tapper said on “The Lead.” The CNN host played several of the videos posted by the White House’s official account on social platform X this week to demonstrate his point, which featured scenes from popular games “Call of Duty” and “Grand Theft Auto” spliced with the military footage.   “Are you not amused?” Tapper quipped, sarcastically. The posts, seemingly meant to promote the ongoing U.S. operation against Tehran, have drawn online criticism since the U.S. and Israel launched strikes on Iran last Saturday. Many users argued that the messaging was sensationalist and lacked the seriousness expected during a major international conflict. The White House has not been deterred, however. “W’s in the chat, boys!” White House Communications Director Steven Cheung wrote Wednesday on X in response to the pushback. Tapper also criticized the White House for a montage posted Thursday night that featured a smash cut of popular films and television shows alongside the caption “JUSTICE THE AMERICAN WAY.” “It is perhaps worth noting that many of the folks, the characters the White House is lionizing in those clips are actually bad guys in those works of fiction,” Tapper said, referencing Walter White from “Breaking Bad, Kylo Ren from “Star Wars,” and Saul Goodman from “Better Call Saul.” “Does the White House even care who the good guys and the bad guys are these days?” he added. In a separate X post reacting to Tapper’s evaluation on Friday, Cheung thanked the network for covering the “banger” videos. ### Related Stocks - [ESPO.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/ESPO.US.md) - [IXP.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/IXP.US.md) - [XLC.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/XLC.US.md) - [GAMR.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/GAMR.US.md) - [WBD.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/WBD.US.md) - [HERO.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/HERO.US.md) - [VOX.US](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/VOX.US.md) ## Related News & Research - [HBO Max comes to India via exclusive JioHotstar deal](https://longbridge.com/en/news/282847921.md) - [Warner Bros.
