# Nexperia China announces 12-inch wafer breakthrough as tensions with Dutch HQ persist

BEIJING, March 9 (Reuters) - Dutch chipmaker Nexperia's Chinese ‌subsidiary on Monday ‌said it has successfully achieved ​small-batch production of 12-inch wafer bipolar discrete devices, even as disputes between ‌the Chinese ⁠unit and the Dutch headquarters drag ⁠on.

The "breakthrough" marked a new milestone in Nexperia ​China's "independent R&D ​and ​mass production capabilities," ‌the company said in a statement released on its Chinese social media account.

Netherlands-based Nexperia, owned ‌by China's Wingtech ​Technology, has ​been ​embroiled in geopolitical ‌tensions following Dutch state ​intervention ​in 2022 that imposed a European management ​team.
