The loan funds were previously used to cover Mongolia's share of the investment in the construction of the Oyu Tolgoi large copper-gold mine. Reports indicate that the state-owned mining company Erdenes Mongol LLC holds a 34% stake in the Oyu Tolgoi project. The Mongolian government hopes to lower the loan interest rate and reduce the management fees that Rio Tinto charges annually as the mine operator. According to the reports, Mongolian Prime Minister L. Oyun-Erdene will meet with Katie Jackson, head of Rio Tinto's copper business, this week to discuss the commercial terms of the joint venture project. A spokesperson for Rio Tinto stated in an email: "We are actively negotiating with the government of Mongolia. These discussions reflect our ongoing commitment to work together to fully unlock the potential of the Oyu Tolgoi project for the benefit of all partners." ### Related Stocks - [Rio Tinto Group (RIO.US)](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/RIO.US.md) - [Rio Tinto Limited (RIO.AU)](https://longbridge.com/en/quote/RIO.AU.md) ## Related News & Research - [Rio Tinto Restarts Iron Ore And Secures Boyne Deal As Valuation Questioned](https://longbridge.com/en/news/281253548.md) - [Rio Tinto Updates Documentation for US$10 Billion Euro Medium Term Note Programme](https://longbridge.com/en/news/281228731.md) - [Jade Gas Raises A$1.8m to Advance Mongolia’s First Commercial Gas Operation](https://longbridge.com/en/news/281096177.md) - [Rio Tinto gets A$2 billion government support to keep Boyne smelter running](https://longbridge.com/en/news/280966098.md) - [BUZZ-Copper miners gain as red metal touches two-week high](https://longbridge.com/en/news/281355807.md)
